Marines - Your Leaders

by Maj Pain

ThumbnailI’ve been off the grid for a bit gang. Sorry about that. Leaders. Some say they are born leaders, some say they are made. Being a leaders isn’t always easy, nor is it always fun and for the love of God its not a popularity contest so sometimes those you are in charge of may night be happy about what you have them do but if they respect you, they will execute.

Throughout the last few days I’ve got to witness the different levels of leaders. Some high level and some good leaders at the low levels. I know a lot of young warriors that have what it takes to become great leaders. In the US military branches we have leaders at all ranks. In the Marine Corps we tend to give more responsibility to our junior leaders (Corporals and Sgts) Don’t tell them how to peel an apple, tell them you want it peeled, let them decide how to do it. Our Non Commissioned Officers (NCOs) are the backbone of the Marine Corps. They work often off of Commanders intent and if the Commander is killed he continues on the last order given.

We all have known “leaders” throughout our lives. Role models aren’t always leaders but leaders are always lead. Some of the best young warriors take charge of their squad, push through adversity and continue to train Marines and win battles. You got to love them and as I watch them in action I continue to wonder where we get such fine young warriors!

Sleep well tonight America, your Marines are kicking ass.
